The second article in a six-article series published in FHWA's Public Roads magazine (November/December 2013 issue) focuses on FHWA's efforts to train responders in traffic incident management (TIM) through the deployment of the SHRP2 TIM Responder Training program. The article explains both the Congressionally mandated Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) and the TIM Responder Training course and deployment activities. FHWA intends to train over one million public safety professionals who respond to TIM incidents, including transportation, law enforcement, fire, rescue, emergency medical services, public works, towing, traffic management centers, and others. This article was written by Kimberly C. Vásconez, FHWA's Traffic Incident & Events Team Leader.
